Stock markets on verge of another crash

US equity futures fell with stocks Wednesday amid rising concern that Europe will lose access to Russian gas, sending the region into a recession that could have global repercussions.

The Nasdaq 100 and the S&P 500 dropped, following a strong correction at the beginning of the week.

Treasury bonds rose, and the dollar recovered after three days of decline. The yield on 10-year bonds plunged below 3%.

The risk of a global economic slowdown and the energy crisis in Europe have dampened optimism about the US earnings season and confidence that the Federal Reserve will avoid an aggressive tightening of monetary policy.

The EU could reduce natural gas consumption by 15% over the next eight months to ensure that interruption of natural gas supplies from Russia would not cause industrial disruption during the winter.

The Stoxx50 is also sliding as the European Union expects Russia to halt gas exports in response to sanctions for the Russia's military attack against Ukraine.
